I’m Karim Dakkon, an award-winning cinematographer based in Los Angeles. Though I was born in Morocco, I was raised in South Florida, where my journey into filmmaking began. With a background in music and painting, I first dipped my toes into the world of film through shooting and editing skateboard videos.

After earning my BFA in Film Production from the University of Central Florida(2017), I embarked on my professional path by shooting my first narrative feature Some Southern Waters, which earned a nomination for Best Cinematography at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival. My career initially took me through two years as an in-house videographer and drone operator for a commercial trucking company, followed by shooting for reality TV and sports.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2020, I’ve deepened my knowledge in lighting as an electrician and gaffer, which has significantly enhanced my cinematographic abilities. My diverse portfolio includes narrative, documentary, music videos, and commercials, across various formats such as 8mm, 16mm, and digital. My work has been showcased at esteemed festivals like the Florida Film Festival, Indie Memphis, and Tribeca.

In my narrative work, I embrace an anti-illusionist approach, while in documentary filmmaking, I strive to reveal the authenticity of human experience. These contrasting methods represent where I find my most profound creative expression.
